主な研究テーマ

My research is focused on the way in which pollutants change. I always tell my students that the pollution that enters the environment is not the same pollution that we detect. Most pollutants change, whether via abiotic or biotic factors, and these changes are important in determining their environmental fate. In this context, I am currently focused on how plastics and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons change in the environment. There is a lot of fieldwork and a mess of analytical modalities involved, but it is fun, humbling work.

受験生へのメッセージ

Supervision is done in both English and Japanese. Most student projects are based on collecting and analyzing environmental samples, with the intention of exposing them to the important analytical modalities in environmental research (and really, I am talking about the GC and LC-MS, but increasingly the Raman/FTIR microscopes). 

自己紹介

Hailing from Toronto, living in Matsue via Kanazawa (and for the record, still affiliated with Kanazawa), I am slowly immersing myself in life in the Sanin area. When not in the lab, I can be found either kickboxing or practicing the cello.
